Hairy matters: An impressive 90 per cent of men follow some sort of grooming routine for their pubes, with 69 per cent of them going for a trimmed style, a study has revealed (stock picture)
Details: The study, released Wednesday by Cosmopolitan, takes a closer look at men's and women's personal grooming preferences, be it for themselves or someone else
The study, based on answers from 4, 146 people from 18 to 35 years old, also showed that 17 per cent of men prefer to go bare while 10 per cent remain natural.
But the estimates also reveal some stark discrepancies between what men and women expect their partners to do - and shows that most men want their dates to follow a heavier-duty routine.
An impressive 46 per cent of them wants their partner's public hair to be completely gone, with only six per cent of them preferring a natural look.
Women, meanwhile, are for the most part happy with a more casual approach, with 70 per cent of them willing to settle for a partner with trimmed pubic hair.
They are also more accepting of natural pubes, with 10 per cent of them picking it as their preference.
Demands: According to the survey, based on answers from 4, 146 people from 18 to 35 years old, 17 per cent of men prefer to go bare while 10 per cent remain natural
Question: The study found that men tend to be less forgiving of a partner whose hair doesn't comply with their preferences: 40 per cent of them said they had asked a partner to change
The survey also shows that a significant majority - 57 per cent - of women choose to go bare, while 25 per cent opt for a trim and only six per cent go natural.
'I think men expect a lot more from women, in terms of grooming, ' Tabitha S told Cosmopolitan.
The 32-year-old recounted being asked by a partner to get ride of her pubic hair completely, and feeling 'kind of crappy' after trying it out.
'I thought, "Isn't there supposed to be some hair there?' " she added.
Barrage: Based on the study, almost a third of men said they might reconsider dating someone due to how they choose to trim - or not trim- their pubes
Upkeep: While most men reported tending to their pubic hair on a monthly basis, most women said they did so weekly or even several times per week
One man was unapologetic about his lack of personal preference for pubic hair in a partner.
'If you can feel it under her underwear or it's sticking out of a small pair of underwear, that's just not attractive to me, ' Jason T, 29, said.
Jason, who is engaged, admitted that having a partner with untrimmed pubic hair would make him reconsider oral sex.
'If a girl had a full bush and didn't want to shave, that wouldn't be a deal breaker, but I also probably wouldn't go down on her very often, ' he added.
The survey found that men tend to be less forgiving of a partner whose hair doesn't comply with their preferences: 40 per cent of them said they had previously asked a partner to change their grooming regime, compared to 23 per cent of women only.
